Dave's Bistro Bar & Grill Review

Heard rave reviews about Dave's bistro so decided to give it a try for Xmas Eve lunch. Upon arrival we noticed that the place was packed, almost every table had a pasta dish of some sort.
Sitting down we took a look at the menu and to our pleasure we noticed most of the items on the menu were PORK. Woohoo!

We decided to order the following:

  • Beef Nachos
  • Smoked Salami Pizza
  • Baby Back Ribs
Now we sat and waited with high expectations. Couple of minutes later the nacho's arrived.
Nachos RM24
These were delicious! The cheese was generous but not overwhelming, chips was thin and crispy, so thin that it was hard to lift it up without cracking each chip. The sauce however was a little on the sweet side, I'm a savory person so I prefer my food salty.

Next came the pizza, interestingly the pizza was oval in shape, a first for me.
Salami Pizza RM32
Munch munch, crust was crispy, toppings was sufficient but nothing exciting or special about it besides being covered in pork. If it wasn't pork, I wouldn't have been excited at all.
Babyback Ribs RM70
Finally, the ribs arrived, this took almost half an hour to arrive so it better be good especially since it costs RM70... Well, first impression was disappointing, mash potato looks dull, the vegetable side looked like acar from a mamak stall.. and i didn't know baby back ribs could be so big, big chunks of meat stuck on it, nothing like the ones from non-halal versions of Tony Romas.
Anyway, here goes.. lets try the sides first. Mash potato was dry and tasted like cardboard, stopped eating this right away, don't want it to spoil my tastebuds. Ok next the vege side, well good news it didn't taste like acar, bad news is i wished it tasted like acar, the vege's were tasteless, man.. the kitchen must have been low on salt or something.
So far the sides were crap, yes CRAP, but hey the main star are the ribs rite? The smell seemed nice, sweet and smokey. I picked up a rib and started to rip away at the meat, great.. the texture of the ribs was like steak but worse, tough, chewy and dry. I thought ribs were supposed to be tender and the meat is suppose to drop off with a touch of a fork.
Haiz.. sadly we finished the ribs, if I had a dog i would have taken this away and gave this to it. This dish was not worth ordering and was the WORST RIBS I have ever tried. Whatever you do, do not waste your money on this and Dave, if your listening, you shouldn't even serve this on your menu, if you can't do it well, don't serve it at all! What a waste of money!

Overall, I'm truly disappointed in Dave's as the place doesn't live up to expectations. However, they could be specialised in pasta dishes since almost everyone was having that while we were there. I would still return to Dave's only to try their pasta and their nachos nothing else. Guess I know the reason why they call it Dave's Bistro Bar and Grill.. They suck at grilling and that's why its at the end. Skip the grilling and stick to the bistro menu.
